Hartley Wintney Speeding Petition

I know from many conversations with local residents that you have concerns about the speed of traffic when entering and exiting Baldwin Close from the A323 Fleet Road, or when walking along the pavement to the school and beyond.

Your local County Councillor, Tim Davies, and I have both raised residents’ concerns with the officials at Hampshire County Council, who have said that, as “there are no patterns of speed-related collisions” on this road, it did not “justify a reduction in the speed limit” on this stretch of road yet.

That’s not good enough. Whilst the speed limit drops to 30mph between Baldwin Close and Mount Pleasant, this seems to be the wrong place to me. Do you agree?

A sensible proposal has been put forward: extend the 30mph speed limit so that it begins just east of the entrance to Baldwin Close and, in lieu of this change – to support the flow of traffic between Hartley Wintney and Fleet – remove the current 40mph speed limit to the east of Baldwin Close, bringing it in line with the 50mph speed limit further along Fleet Road.

If you agree with this balanced proposal to reduce the speed limit for the walk to school from Baldwin Close, please take 60 seconds to complete the petition below.

Thank you for your support in helping me champion this issue.

A323 Speed Limits Petition

  • Current Your details

To the members of Hampshire County Council, Hart District Council and Hartley Wintney Parish Council.

The petition of the residents of Hartley Wintney and others across North East Hampshire.

Declares that the junction of the A323 with Baldwin Close in Hartley Wintney should be safe to reduce the likelihood of accidents and near misses in future; and that the walking route to school should be safe so that everyone can choose to walk if they wish.

The petitioners therefore request the aforementioned bodies to extend the 30mph speed from Mount Pleasant to Baldwin Close and, in lieu, the 40mph speed limit from 300 yards west of the junction of the A323 and Baldwin Close should be removed, bringing this stretch of road in line with the remainder of the A323 Fleet Road.

And your petitioners remain, etc.
